Dorchester itself is packed with interesting features such as roman roads, museums and a wide selection of pubs and restaurants. England’s largest hillfort, maiden castle, provides a scenic walk, whilst there is a county museum with a room dedicated to locally born author, thomas hardy, writer of the recently televised ‘tess of the d’urbervilles'. 7 mis away in picturesque weymouth are glorious gently shelving beaches, though along the coastline visitors can also find the rugged peninsula of portland and chesil beach – made famous by writer ian mcewan.
